Bandhavgarh National Park, India
In just about a century, the wild tiger population has declined by 97%. They estimate that as few as 3,200 tigers exist in the wild today. That is much less than the 5000 captive tigers in US zoos alone. In Bandhavgarh, there are only about 60 tigers in the whole park, yet it is the highest concentration of wild tigers in the world. It is an unfortunate situation as the tigers have had to compete for space with expanding human populations. Thankfully, the Indian government, as well as other non profit organizations are cracking down to help preserve this endangered beauty. Photo © copyright by Grant Ordelheide.
